What Is the Role of a NDIS Plan Manager?

If you've ever wondered what a NDIS Plan Manager does—or whether you need one—you're not alone. We often get questions about what Plan Managers are responsible for and what they can and can't do when it comes to your NDIS plan.

In this blog, we break down the key responsibilities of a Plan Manager and how having one can make managing your NDIS funding easier and less stressful.

What Does Plan Management Mean?

Plan Management is the financial administration of a NDIS plan on a participant’s behalf.

A Plan Manager:

•              Pays provider invoices for NDIS-funded supports

•              Helps you monitor your budget

•              Makes sure claims are made in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Guide

•              Sends monthly statements showing your spending and remaining funds

•              Ensures you’re following NDIS rules without needing to manage the paperwork yourself

What Plan Managers Don’t Do

While Plan Managers take care of the finances, there are some things we don’t do:

•              We don’t decide whether a support is “reasonable and necessary.”

•              We don’t confirm or advise which support category a claim should come from.

•              We don’t speak to the NDIA on your behalf about plan changes or approvals.

If you’re unsure about which category a support should be claimed from or whether something is eligible, you’ll need to speak to a My NDIS Contact, your Local Area Coordinator (LAC), Support Coordinator, or contact the NDIA directly. Your LAC or Support Coordinator is also the best person to help explain your overall plan and how your supports align with your goals.

What Are Plan Managers Responsible For?

Plan Managers are here to make managing your NDIS funds easier. At Pacific Plan Management, we:

•              Receive and pay invoices from providers of your choice (registered and non-registered)

•              Claim funds through the NDIS portal

•              Send monthly statements showing spending and remaining funds

•              Ensure all claims follow the NDIS Pricing Arrangements

How Do Plan Managers Help with Paying Providers?

We receive invoices from your providers and check that they meet NDIS guidelines. If the provider has a valid ABN (which is required for payment), we’ll process and claim the invoice through the NDIS portal and then pay the provider directly. That means no chasing invoices, no stress, and no paperwork for you.

What Are the Benefits of Having a Plan Manager?

There are plenty of benefits to choosing Plan Management, including:

✅ Less admin – we take care of invoicing and financial reporting

✅ More choice – you can use both registered and non-registered providers

✅ Clear reporting – we help you stay on top of your budget with easy-to-read statements

Best of all? The funding for Plan Management is separate from your other supports, so it won’t reduce the funding you receive for your therapies or daily supports.
